Joerie Vercauteren

Physiotherapist

As a physiotherapist at the Royal Ballet School Antwerp, I try to guide every pupil and educate them about everything that has to do with muscles and bones. It is extremely important for dancers to always safeguard the anatomical aspects of their bodies. That's why I supervise dancers physically as well as mentally through rehabilitation and other things. My childhood dream was to become a physiotherapist at a high level football club, but the exclusivity of this job prevented that. Eventually, I discovered the dance world needed my skills as well and I have forged strong bonds with motivated dancers whom I guide on a weekly basis. I know what it's like to be driven by your passion, that's why I wish all the pupils nothing but enjoyment. My advice is: ‘keep challenging yourself but guard yourself against stress.’
